Here my first attempt to cut out an object from its background with the free software Gimp. The original Picture: The Cut out with a simple curved text I created in Inkscape:
I was just a little bored and created this:
I just played around with Inkscape a bit and created something around the Number 62 spelled out in German. This is the result:

I want to learn Inkscape a bit better, because I had so much fun creating my business cards with it. And since I find reading manuals rather boring I decided to do a few tutorials. This is what I created while doing them: Update: cut-out effect and rust effect added.
