Today, June 1st is International Children’s Day, the day where the wellbeing and rights of children are being celebrated all over the world. But this day should also remind us of those whose who life a live in agony and starvation. As well as of those who never had a chance to speak out for themselves before the greatest of all gifts was taken from them.

When writing this my thoughts are with a very good and long friend of mine who recently suffered a great loss. Those of you who know her will know what I am talking about. You others don’t and I am not intending to change that.

Today after work I sat down with a neighbor to talk and meanwhile watched her little girl play. It is just such a grace to see kids play. They don’t care about „black or white“, „pretty or ugly“, „male or female“, „rich or poor“ „good or evil“, „truth or lie“. Kids are completely straight forward and truthful till our society teaches them the advantage of controlling emotions and lying to their advantage.

I have the feeling that everybody increasingly cares just for their own good. A world were you get suspicious looks and thoughts throwing in your direction when you do others good without asking for something in return. Truthfulness is beaten down by standards of behavior way too often nowadays. lying often counts as good behavior, while speaking a negative truth out aloud counts as tactlessness and impoliteness. The world could be a better place, if it gave up a bit of its artificial good manner and gained back some of its nature given truth.

Kids symbolize this truth and should be listened to. Herbert Grönemeyer a famous German singer wrote a beautiful song about it called „Kinder an die Macht“ (engl.: kids to power). here are the lyrics together with a translation into English:

original:

Die Armeen aus Gummibärchen
die Panzer aus Marzipan
Kriege werden aufgegessen
einfacher Plan
kindlich genial

Es gibt kein Gut
es gibt kein Böse
es gibt kein Schwarz
es gibt kein Weiß
es gibt Zahnlücken
statt zu unterdrücken
gibt’s Erdbeereis auf Lebenszeit
immer für’ne Überraschung gut

Gebt den Kindern das Kommando
sie berechnen nicht
was sie tun
Die Welt gehört in Kinderhände
dem Trübsinn ein Ende
wir werden in Grund und Boden gelacht
Kinder an die Macht.

Sie sind die wahren Anarchisten
lieben das Chaos räumen ab
kennen keine Rechte
keine Pflichten
noch ungebeugte Kraft
massenhaft
ungestümer Stolz

Gebt den Kindern das Kommando
sie berechnen nicht
was sie tun
Die Welt gehört in Kinderhände
dem Trübsinn ein Ende
wir werden in Grund und Boden gelacht
Kinder an die Macht.

translation:

The armies of gummy bears
the tanks of marzipan
Wars are eaten
Simple Plan
childish genius

There is no good
There is no evil
There are no black
There are no white
there are gaps
rather than suppressing
There’s strawberry ice cream for life
always good for a surprise

Give the children the command
they don’t calculate
what they do
The world belongs in the hands of children
an end to the gloom
we will be laughed into the ground
Children to power.

They are the true Anarchists
love the mess clean up
have no rights
no obligations
still undiffracted force
massive
impetuous pride

Give the children the command
they don’t calculate
what they do
The world belongs in the hands of children
an end to the gloom
we will be laughed into the ground
Children to power.

here you can listen to the song.

My emotions in the last days have been from pure happiness to deepest sorrow and that is a bit what let me write this post. I just wrote all this thoughts out of my head and all that is left right now is sadness and tiredness. Therefore good night.
