In 1993 the United Nations General Assembly declared May 3rd to be World Press Freedom Day. It exists ever since. I don’t want to go much into detail, because the topic is quite complex, all I want to do is remind you of, is the importance of this topic and that today is the day this basic right of our free society is celebrated.

The organization reporters without borders also releases a list of “Forty predators of press freedom“:

There are 40 names on this year’s list of Predators of Press Freedom – 40 politicians, government officials, religious leaders, militias and criminal organisations that cannot stand the press, treat it as an enemy and directly attack journalists.
